YanıtlaSilMy Reflection for Sueda Us:
YanıtlaSilI don't know the proficiency of your student but it looks like she's a beginner, if so, I think you could've supported your sentences with gestures or using your hands because she probably couldn't comprehend most of what you told. You also explain what topics you'll teach but she doesn't understand, for example I don't think she understood what possesive adjectives are. I also think she didn't quite understand the "happy/pleased/glad" stuff, it looks like she just memorized what you were repeating through pictures and make her repeat by memorizing it. At first you didn't tell the difference between "he/she" and tried to do an activity by using them. I wish you told it in the beginning. I liked the filling the blanks activity and how you made her do it first and then write it. Your way of telling possessive adjectives are effective, she also said she understood it. I also liked the possessive adj activity but it would be better to make the genders obvious for example instead of saying "Mr. ..." you could've put a name which she would understand that it was a man. For your last activity I think putting a nationality part is confusing for the student or you could've taught it with the countries part. Overall I think there could be some improvements but it was an okay lesson.
Reflection for Bahar Aleyna Türker:
YanıtlaSilHello Aleyna, I want to start with your positive energy and motivation in lesson. Your lesson was very lively and your student was very engaged because of your approach. However, at the start of the lesson I noticed that you worked on activities before giving input to your student. This situation made expanding the knowledge harder for you and your student but this situtaion was not seen later at the lesson. Especially in the topics of “family members” and “his and her” you were really good at navigating the dialogs with your student. Overall, you were really good at understanding your student and working around her needs and I also really liked your recap of the class at the end. Thank you , teacher Aleyna.
Reflection for Feyza Mina Acar
YanıtlaSilThroughout the lesson, you gave the instructions in a very clear way. First of all, the explanations you provided made the topic much easier to understand. While doing this, your use of gestures and hand movements helped you convey your message to the student more effectively. I really liked the role play parts especially the Taylor Swift one because you built on the student’s interests while also reviewing the patterns you taught throughout the lesson. The video at the end of the lesson was also helpful as a recap. The cloze-type activity caught my attention. You first asked the student not to look at the screen while also writing at the same time, but the student didn’t quite understand what to do. However, you noticed this and made a correction, which made the activity more effective. There will be some improvements as the lessons progress. Overall, the materials you used and your communication with your student were quite good.
Reflection for Bedriye Kızıltaşoğlu
YanıtlaSilHello Bedriye,
When I watched your lesson, I noticed that you began in a good and appropriate manner for the student's level. Because ı think your student is a beginner and using your gestures and facial expressions effectively improved clarity and relaxed the class mood. I also appreciated the arrangement of your topics; including numbers and simple structures like "How old are you" was beneficial because it expands the scope of the lesson for practical application. In fact, when viewing the video, I thought, "It would be nice if I also included these parts." However, instead of simply saying "nice," you could have introduced other terms like "pleased" or "glad" at the start of the class. This is because the student may not always use or hear the word "nice" when speaking with foreigners, which may help them improve their comprehension abilities. Furthermore, you could have made the in-class activities more lively and student-centered to increase participation even further. Your lesson was overall good, and I believe that with these small additions and changes, your next lessons will be better. :)
My reflection for Sudem Zeynep Fidan
YanıtlaSilI watched your lesson with the adult student in the video. You showed a very friendly attitude toward the student. I think this friendly environment is important because it helps the student feel relaxed and not afraid to make mistakes. You used pictures and activities to teach the subject, which I think is a good idea. Using visuals helps the student and makes the lesson more interesting and memorable.
Another key point I noticed was your language use. When the student did not understand something, you changed to Turkish for a short time. This was a smart strategy to make sure the student got the main idea. After the student understood, you quickly returned to English.
However, I saw one detail that was a small problem: you did not teach the common question "How old are you?" to the student. I believe it is important to include basic phrases that people use every day in conversations. This phrase is used often, so the student should have learned it to be ready for real-life talks.
Finally, when the student gave a wrong answer, you did not make them feel bad. You corrected the mistakes carefully to protect the student's confidence.
Reflection 2 for Sueda Us.
YanıtlaSilHi teacher Sueda. I watched video and it was good to divide parts (like warmup). Your start was energetic and ask your student how she is. This was a good point. But your internet connection was slow so sometimes I didn't understand your student's answers. (Of course it is not your fault maybe you can take the video in a cafe later). In alphabet you selected the different pronunciation this was a useful thing for Rana. But your activities were not a lot. Maybe you can increase. It was a good showing difference between USA and Turkiye phone number. You could have shown more jobs while explaining her. You could have also increased the question patterns. Showing the signs she might encounter in daily life is also a very good content for a beginner level student. I liked your video and you are a good teacher. Well done
Reflection for Lesson 6 Belma Güner:
YanıtlaSilHello Belma, I would like to start off by saying that your energy is high and makes your student feel comfortable and raises motivation. I think your immediate corrections in pronunciation and your positive feedbacks are helpful. When teaching vocabulary at the start of your lesson I like the way you use gestures but giving this amount of vocabulary without using context can be difficult and forgettable. I also liked how you reviewed every lesson but going through that much information in one class may confuse the student. I really enjoyed how you used so many activities and did them with your student. Overall I really enjoyed your class but I wish I could see the materials to understand your class better, good job Teacher Belma.
Reflection for Lesson 6 Sueda Us:
YanıtlaSilHi Sueda, firstly I would like to say that using questions to attract attention at the beginning of the lesson was very effective. Proceeding first with vocabulary and then teaching question patterns and expressions that can be used for shopping made the lesson flow appropriate and meaningful. The feedback you gave your student had a positive impact and increased the energy of the lesson. Emphasizing points the student did not understand more clearly and using demonstrations also contributed greatly to comprehensibility. You conducted a very activity-rich lesson. In this way, I think you were able to assess the student’s level of acquisition of the topic. Reviewing all the lessons helped the student see their own progress, and your feedback at this point increased their motivation. However, due to the large number of tasks, the student’s willingness decreased at some points. Especially during the role-play activity on the “calling on the phone” topic, the student expressed difficulty and said she couldn’t even do it comfortably in her native language. But overall, it was an active and highly interactive lesson. Thank you, teacher Sueda.
